The History of the MacKenzie Clan – Outlander
If you watch the Outlander series on TV or have read the Outlander books, you’re familiar with the MacKenzie Clan and in particular, James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser. If not, keep reading and you will be soon enough. In Scotland, clans originated from Celtic or Norman ancestors. In the case of the MacKenzie family, it was Celtic origins. The Celts – Ancient MacKenzie Blood There are no written records from the Celts themselves, so historians have had to piece together Celtic history using historical accounts from other cultures and archeological findings. The first known incident involving the Celts is from 400 BC in Northern Italy. They are referred to as…

Outlander – Inverness, Scotland
I’m a big fan of the Outlander TV series and the books by Diana Gabaldon. With the long mid-season break taking place, I decided to do some research into the historical locations and people in the Outlander stories. Inverness, Scotland Inverness is where Claire and Frank go for their honeymoon. It is located to the south of the Highlands, next to the Ness river. Looking back to the time when the Outlander story takes place, there was a castle located in Inverness in 1745. The castle was occupied by Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite followers. Fearing that the…

The Sioux Nation Pictograph Symbols – Infographic
The Sioux Nation consists of the Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota Indian tribes. Each tribe is divided into subdivisions, 14 in all. They once hunted and roamed free across the lands where modern-day Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, North and South Dakota, and Nebraska are. A proud people, they were known for their fierce war-like abilities. In an attempt to keep their land and way of life, some of the Sioux tribes were involved in many wars. As European settlers moved into their lands, they eventually were forced to live on designated reservations. The Old Mulgrave Castle Uncovered – Built by a Giant Named Wade?
Mulgrave Castle, the Wade Family, and Giants Throughout history, three castles in Yorkshire, England, shared the name Mulgrave. The most ancient accredited to a “giant” named Wade. A giant? Yes, that’s what the legend says. I set out to see if I could make sense of it all. Wade, The Duke of England – King of the Finns and Mulgrave Castle There is a connection with legends and folklore regarding Wade or Wada – it’s hard to determine whether this person and his family were real or fiction. Yet, generations of people from the Yorkshire area have taken this last name as their own and passed it down to their…

History of The Blood Moon
Tonight, on April 15, 2014, we will witness the wondrous sight of a blood moon – the first of a set of four total lunar eclipses called a tetrad. It is said to start at 11:59 pm (CST) on April 14th and last until about 5:00 in the morning, with the best views around 2 am. It’s interesting to note that a total lunar eclipse can only occur during a full moon phase, and the term “blood moon” is used when a total lunar eclipse takes place on the day of one of Israel’s feasts. Let’s take a look at the history of the blood moon.

Ancestry DNA Testing Results
If you’d like to learn more about where you came from, I mean further back than any genealogy paper trail will lead you, then opt-in for ancestry DNA testing. This is precisely what I did through a company called 23andme. According to their website, you can “Trace your lineage back 10,000 years and discover your history from over 750 maternal lineages and over 500 paternal lineages.” Just what I need to supplement my already extensive family tree. I’ve worked on my family tree for years using Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. It currently goes back as far as the 1500’s on some branches, but to watch that extend back thousands of years will be…
